It's easy to leak something in a screen recording. An email in the corner. An API key in a settings page. A customer's name in a table. Once the video is out, you can't take it back.
Here are two ways to hide it: automatic blur while you record, and blur boxes you draw yourself.
Automatic blur
Cuezoom scans the page while you record and blurs:
- Emails
- Card numbers
- Password fields
- API keys in common formats, like Stripe, GitHub, AWS, Google and Slack keys, and JWT tokens
It follows them as you scroll, and the blur is in every export. You can turn it off in the Privacy panel if you don't need it.
Draw your own blur box
Auto blur only knows patterns. A customer name or an internal URL looks like normal text. For those:
- Open the Privacy panel in the editor.
- Click Add blur box. It appears at the playhead.
- Drag it over the spot on the preview. Pull the corner to resize it.
- On the timeline, drag its edges to set when it shows up and when it goes away.
Add as many as you need. Boxes that overlap in time get their own rows on the timeline, so they're easy to grab.
What blur can't catch
- Text inside images or videos. It reads the page, not the pixels.
- Canvas apps like design tools or maps.
- Things you never showed on the page, like a password typed into a hidden field. Those aren't in the video anyway.
So always watch the export once before you share it.
Tips
- Use test accounts and fake data for demos when you can. It's safer than blur.
- Blur a little more than you need. A box that's slightly too big looks fine.
- Step guides use the same blur, so screenshots in your guide are covered too.
